Environmental sensing is a core part of the Smart Reef / Living Shoreline concept. The project combines shoreline surveys with continuous or recurring observations of waves, currents, weather, water level, and water quality.

Public-facing data can help researchers, students, partners, and community members follow changing coastal conditions and understand how the shoreline responds over time.
